What Makes Us Different

We are a small school. Our small campus allows for many different advantages:

  • Individualization
In most small schools, the teachers know all of the children. This allows for more careful assessment of each child’s needs, strengths, and weaknesses. In turn, the teacher is better able to individualize instruction for each child’s learning style and needs.
  • Flexibility
The small school setting largely escapes the fixed schedules, red tape, and administrative troubles of larger schools. Smaller schools are able to be more flexible, and better fit each family’s needs.
  • Social Skills
Studies have found that smaller schools with fewer classrooms improve social development. This is largely because students know more children and teachers than the ones just in their class.
  • Family Atmosphere
A sense of community quickly and easily develops. There is more interaction among families, teachers, and students. The school is more like a family than what is found in larger settings.
  • Character Building
The family atmosphere of a small school provides an environment that supports and extends this important work that is begun in the home.

We LOVE the outdoors & nature!

  • Four playgrounds spread across our 5 Acre Campus
  • Our campus is a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation
  • Each classroom has their own garden plot! Every spring we plant a flower or vegetable, over the summer we watch them grow & in the fall we harvest!
  • We spend time outside twice and a day and in the summer we enjoy “Fun in the Sun Day” every Friday!
  • Every classroom at The Red Barn has their own pet. The children share in the responsibility and fun of having a pet by helping our teachers feed and take care of their classroom pet.
  • We also have a center-wide pet, Thumper the bunny! The children regularly visit and feed Thumper outside in his home. This is a great opportunity for the children to learn about the responsibilities attached to caring for an animal.
